Meet the Editor

Michelle Noble | Freelance Editor

Michelle Noble, freelance editor's dog, a black-and-tan German shepherd.

Maggie. Rescued GSD. Missed the first week of shepherd school and is now scared of her own bark. Got kicked out of Texas for her liberal politics. Selected Michelle to be her primary emotional-support human.

Finnegan. Literal trash kitty. Basically a cuddly potato with fur. Always hungry. Possesses precisely one-third of a brain cell.

Michelle Noble, editor's cat, a calico (black, white, and copper) sits in a fabric basket.

Luna, a.k.a. Feistypants. Spicy, smart, and fearless. An absolute stunner and knows it. Would like to speak to the manager.

Hi, I’m Michelle.

I'm a professionally trained freelance editor and proofreader based in Ontario, Canada. I offer reliable, compassionate, and meticulous edits that clarify and polish your prose.

I probably should have know this is where my career would end up, given how I spent kindergarten copying the dictionary instead of drawing pictures, or that I read (and understood) Little Women in third grade. But at the end of high school, a career in publishing felt intimidating and “impractical,” so I went to study sociology and social work at McMaster University instead.

Yet, the pull of literature persisted. I filled every elective with courses such as women’s literature, classic Canadian authors, gothic horror, and the art of the short story.

After having my daughter and staying home with her for several years, I realized I had zero desire to return to a job in social work; I was burnt out, and I wanted to pursue my original passion.

Right around that time, the pandemic hit. I spent lockdown balancing my daughter’s remote learning with my own distance education through Toronto Metropolitan University. There, I completed courses in traditional publishing, genre fiction, developmental and line editing, copyediting, proofreading, editing for children and young adults, and accessible publishing.

I completed the program and obtained my Publishing Certificate in 2023. I launched Noble Editorial shortly afterward and spent a year editing on a voluntary basis to gain experience. Now, I love what I do! It’s a privilege to work with authors and creators and support them in pursuing their publishing goals.

When I’m not editing, I’m usually reading for fun. (Still not tired of it!) I love spending time with my husband and our tween daughter, as well as our brood of rescue animals. I’m a homebody who enjoys cooking (Okay, fine; maybe I just like the opportunity to kitchen-dance to 2000s emo.), comfort-watching my favourite shows, walking my dog, digging in the garden, and I’m always up for a good game night!

I have AuDHD, which results in extreme perfectionism in my work contrasted with utter chaos in other areas of my life—good news for my clients, bad news for my household! (I may also have a tendency to overshare. Oops.)

If you’re looking for an editor who will cheer you on, provide honest and supportive feedback, and go the extra mile to find answers to your questions, reach out today to see if we’d be a good fit!
